Spiritual Director | ACP Facilitator

My Journey:
From Healthcare to
Deep Accompaniment

My path to companioning has been a slow "unfurl." I spent over a decade as a Nurse Practitioner in primary care and hospice, sitting with people in life’s most vulnerable thresholds. While I no longer practice clinical medicine in this role, those years gave me a deep reverence for the wisdom the body carries and a sensitive attunement to the nuances of grief, joy, and physical transformation.

Building on that clinical foundation, I felt called to help people navigate the complex conversations surrounding future medical care before a crisis arises. This led me to become a certified Advance Care Planning (ACP) Facilitator through Respecting Choices. I believe that defining your own goals for care is not just a clinical task, but a profound act of self-care and a gift of clarity for those you love. Whether we are discussing your spiritual path or your future medical preferences, my role is to ensure your voice is heard and honored.

My own spiritual journey has followed a similar path of transformation. Formed in Catholicism and later finding a home in Zen Buddhist practices, I eventually found my center in the natural world. Today, my sense of the sacred is grounded in the interconnectedness of all life, in the mystery of the Pacific Northwest forests, the rhythm of the seasons, and the innate knowing that resides in our own bodies.

This work is deeply personal and lived-in, born from my own need for both somatic grounding and spiritual spaciousness. My journey through chronic illness has taught me to re-friend a body that speaks in new, sometimes difficult rhythms, while my sacred wandering across traditions has taught me to trust the unfolding of the unknown. I know what it feels like to have your innate wisdom dismissed by systems that value productivity or hierarchy over presence. I started Embodied Conversations to be the companion I often needed: someone who honors the whole human experience. The physical, the soulful, and everything in our breaths between.

Principles of Care

These values are the heartbeat of my work. They are the promises I make to every person I accompany:

Your body is part of the conversation

Your body holds insight, memory, and meaning. We make space for what emerges through sensation, breath, movement, and stillness.

All parts of you are welcome

Grief and joy, clarity and confusion, connection and disconnection. Everything that arises belongs. You do not need to be different to be met with care.

You are the authority of your own experience

I trust that you carry your own wisdom. My role is to support you in listening more deeply to what is already within you.

Every body belongs here

I am committed to an affirming space that honors diverse identities, bodies, and lived experiences, especially for those who have been marginalized.

We meet in shared humanity

This is a relational space grounded in respect and compassion. I walk alongside you, not ahead of you, honoring the complexity of being human.

Care is rooted in deep listening

I listen not just to your words, but to what is felt, sensed, and quietly held beneath them. This is a space where you can be heard in your fullness.

Do you know what you are?

You are a manuscript of a divine letter.

You are a mirror reflecting a noble face.

This universe is not outside of you.

Look inside yourself,

everything that you want,

you are already that.

Creative Practice &
The Spacious Unknown

Beyond my one-on-one work, I am a writer, poet, and creative. These creative practices are my own way of making meaning and listening to the world. My Substack, Unfurl, is a sanctuary for the wild soul longing for wholeness in the body, in the earth, and in the spirit.

On Unfurl, I share regular written reflections and poetry, often accompanied by my photography and original art. It is also the home of my podcast, The Spacious Unknown, where I explore the inner journey through conversation and contemplation. These pieces are visual and audible meditations, inviting you to join me in the practice of deep, reverent attention.

"I've known Kat for many years and observed her own spiritual growth while transitioning from being a medical practitioner to a spiritual director. Kat's intuitive, creative perspective makes her a wonderful companion for tapping into one's own spirit. Unlike a therapist or a pastor, Kat does not direct nor advise, instead, she helps draw out our own wisdom by connecting us with our hearts and bodies, instead of just our minds. Even in one session, I found new insights that surprised and delighted me!"
